Brazil and Portugal joined defending champions France in the next round of the World Cup 2022 after staying on top of their respective groups with only one game to spare in group stage. Brazil beat Switzerland to maintain a three-point lead in Group G, while Portugal down Uruguay kept three points clear on top of Group H. More from world soccer and club football here!

Five-time champions Brazil needed 83 minutes to clinch their spot in the next round of the tournament, with Manchester United midfielder Casemiro scoring a stunning winner to beat Switzerland 1-0 seven minutes before the final whistle. Vinicius Jr. netted a goal after the hour mark that was eventually ruled out for offside by VAR. Watch soccer online free here and win cash!

Tite’s men won against Serbia 2-0 in their opening game, extending their win streak to 9 games across all competitions and going unbeaten in 31 games, losing only once in over the last two years—the 2021 Copa América final against Argentina. Brazil have qualified to the knockouts and have not lost a World Cup group stage game in 17 matches. They face Cameroon in the final round of the group games.

Also in Group G, Serbia shared spoils with stubborn Cameroon in a thrilling 3-3 draw. Cameroon avoided elimination thanks to Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who scored Cameroon’s third and level the match. Both teams needed to win their final games to keep their World Cup hopes alive as it will determine their fate in the next round of the competition.

Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes scored early in the second half before converting an injury-time penalty to keep his side on top of Group H with enough points to qualify in the next round of the tournament. Cristiano Ronaldo was seen celebrating the first goal that was eventually credited to Fernandes, who made a cross heading to Ronaldo’s head.

After a few replays, VAR showed that Fernandes was the one who made the touch, denying Ronaldo of becoming Portugal’s joint-record goalscorer in the World Cup. “I don’t really think it matters who scored,” Fernandes said. “The feeling at the time was that he touched the ball, I was crossing it to him, but what’s important was we moved into the next round and beat a very big opponent.”

Uruguay needed to beat Ghana, who won against South Korea 2-3  in the final round to have a chance in the next round of the tournament. Portugal will take South Korea, who will be without their coach in this game after manager Paulo Bento was sent off following his protest to referee Anthony Taylor.

Earlier, Kylian Mbappe scored twice to beat Denmark 2-1 in their Group D clash, becoming the first side to clinch their place in the next round of the title defense. Mbappe’s brace put France on top of the group with six points and a game left to play, leaving Australia with three, while Denmark and Tunisia with one. France to face Tunisia in the final round.
