15 players from Spain Women’s football team pulled off from the National team
The Spain Women’s football team was instantly sunk into crisis this Thursday night after 15 of their national team players released an official statement declaring themselves unavailable over the issue of the current coach Jorge Vilda, citing that their health and emotional status are taking the toll.
Several Spain players denied the allegation of calling for their coach to be sacked, and they say that they will not return for the national team until further improvement and ‘professional project’ to be placed.
The players also criticized the RFEF by making the statement of the players in public and interpreting it as renouncement to play for the national team, saying that their commitment is “unquestionable”. “We want a firm commitment towards a professional project in which all aspects are taken care of to get the best performances out of a group of players who we consider can achieve more and better objectives,” the players said.
“Could anyone believe that, with eight months to go until the World Cup, a group of players of maximum level, which is what we consider ourselves to be, would make this decision on a whim or as a form of black amil, as has been suggested publicly?” Players added.
“By asking not to be selected, we penalize our professional career, our economic situation and of course continuing to build something important in women’s football. Because having reached where we are now costs years of effort for lots of people. And there are still lots of things to improve, as is being demonstrated recently.”
RFEF Football Chief Alvarez announced that the federation would respect the players’ decision and instead will demand Jorge Vilda to make a list of players which 15 players that announced their unavailability to not be included.
