European round-up: Liverpool thrash United, Barcelona extends lead

Real Madrid settled for a goalless draw at Real Betis to end the weekend trailing league leaders Barcelona by nine points. Raphinha scored a first-half winner for Barcelona to win against Valencia 1-0. Barca boss Xavi breaks his old coach Pep Guardiola’s record as the second best-ever Barcelona manager based on the first 50 games in charge.


Inter Milan trimmed Napoli’s huge Serie A lead to 15 points with 2-0 wins over Lecce. Earlier, Napoli suffered a 1-0 at Lazio. Holders AC Milan failed to go second in Serie A after falling to a 2-1 defeat at Fiorentina, ending a recent upturn in form for the reigning champions. Roma moved above Milan on goal difference after beating Juventus. Fiorentina meanwhile stay 12th, level on 31 points with Torino. 


Matthijs de Ligt and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting scored for Bayern to reclaim the top spot from Borussia Dortmund on goal difference, with a 2-1 win at Stuttgart. Sadio Mane has finally marked his return from a long injury layover as a second half substitute. Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt have drawn 2-2 that put both club’s hopes for European league halted. 


Mbappe scored his 201st goal for Paris Saint-Germain breaking Edinson Cavani’s record of 200 goals to become the Ligue 1 club’s all-time top scorer in 4-2 win over Nantes. His teammate Neymar is set to undergo surgery to repair ankle ligaments, which will keep the Brazil international out for the rest of the season, the Ligue 1 club announced.
