Liverpool’s fine form ended quickly after crashing against Bournemouth, with a 1-0 victory to move out of the Premier League‘s relegation zone, while Manchester City beat Crystal Palace to stay on Arsenal’s trail at the top. Chelsea made it three straight wins in all competitions for the first time since October by beating Leicester 3-1 away.

Barcelona set a new defensive record against Athletic in La Liga after keeping yet another clean sheet. Xavi’s side have just conceded 8 goals after 25 games this season, setting a new record in the competition since Atlético de Madrid in 1990/91 and Deportivo de La Coruña in 1993/94. Holders Real Madrid had moved to six points off the lead with a 3-1 win at Espanyol at home.

Without coach Jose Mourinho, Roma dropped out of Serie A’s Champions League places after falling to a shock 4-3 home defeat to Sassuolo. Earlier, Verona’s bid for survival looked blurry after a 1-1 draw with Monza left them five points from 17th-placed Spezia and safety. Meanwhile, Fiorentina beat Cremonese 2-0 to win their fifth straight match in all competitions.

Bayern extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table after an entertaining 5-3 victory over Augsburg in the Bavarian derby. Schalke fought back from behind to halt Borussia Dortmund’s title ambitions in a 2-2 draw in the Bundesliga’s 100th Ruhr derby. Leipzig moved to third with a 3-0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach, while 1-1 draws were seen between Frankfurt and Stuttgart, and Hertha and Mainz.

Lois Openda scored a record hat-trick in Lens’ 4-0 win against Clermont Foot. He scored three goals inside 5 minutes of the 30th minute in the game, the fastest in the history of Ligue 1. Lorient went level on points with Nice by winning 2-0 against Troyes, who extended its winless run to 10 games to remain in the relegation zone. Midtable Toulouse ended their three-game losing streak by defeating bottom-side Angers 2-0.
