In the thrilling final, Pakistan batted first, and although England won the toss and chose to bowl, Pakistan struggled to set a high total under pressure from accurate bowling. Adil Rashid took Babar Azam’s key wicket for just 32 in the 12th over, while Curran, who was named player of the series, conceded just 12 runs during his four over spell, taking three wickets to record impressive figures.
Pakistan’s suffering started when Shaheen Shah Afridi was injured. Part-time off spinner Iftikhar Ahmed was called to complete Shaheen’s over. Stokes took the advantage and hit a four through extra cover and a six over long-off to assure England’s control. Pakistan lost seven wickets for 53 runs in the last nine overs. “It hasn’t sunk in at all obviously. What an unbelievable effort from everyone to win the game. I am a bit speechless,” England captain Jos Buttler said. “It feels really different to 2019. It was a different time, different place and a different group. I am just immensely proud.
