The result of the match left Los Blancos five points adrift of the current league-leader Barcelona, who clinched victory against Girona. Brazilian Winger, Vinicius Junior provided three good opportunities to lift Madrid, but none converted as the Sociedad’s goalkeeper Alex Remiro excelled for the visitors with his string of fine saves to deny the host.
On the other side, Real’s city counterpart Atletico Madrid climbed to fourth in the standings after Saul Niguez scored the only goal after coming in as a substitute at Osasuna. To experience the best soccer prediction sites click here!
The match started positive for the host as Karim Benzema kept the ball from two defenders but failed to find a perfect pass inside the box as Vini. Jr had the chance to score but missed miserably after a good bit of skill to create the chance. Asier Illarramendi also almost hit one from distance for the visitors but missed it widely. Toni Kroos had a decent opportunity after some good combination play and a set allowed him to shoot from outside of the box – but it was tapped away by the keeper.
Valverde had the first opportunity to score in the second half when his powerful kick through sped past the post and missed the back of the net. The visiting Sociedad almost came twice, with Takefusa Kubo had a good touch near the goal before it accidentally clattered to Thibaut Courtois in the chest that resulted in a yellow card. Vinicius then found himself a chance again, but Alex Remiro came out on top and tipped Vini’s lofted shot over the target.
“Vinícius played a good match, if he had scored it would have been a spectacular one,” Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti said. “He has been playing well. Sometimes he will miss, but he is always trying. We played a very complete game but couldn’t score,” Ancelotti said. “We were close. I’m satisfied with the draw because we played well.”
With this scoreless draw, then shared points will freeze Real Madrid and Real Sociedad remain second and third in their respective La Liga standings. Los Blancos misses a lot of chances to make ground and disturbs the league-leader FC Barcelona, and the lead up by five points, having played the same amount of games. On the other hand, Sociedad are now five points clear of fourth-placed Atletico Madrid.
Madrid came into this game with a home win in the Madrid derby match against their city rival Atletico in the quarterfinals of the Copa del Rey, remaining unbeaten against Sociedad since their 4-3 home loss in the quarterfinals of the Copa in 2020. Sociedad came from a 1-0 loss over the number one Barcelona in the Copa quarterfinals, a match that ended the club’s nine-game winning streak across all competitions, cooling down their hottest streak as a Spanish club, ended by the La Liga powerhouse.
