USA toppled China in the finals of the Fiba Women’s World Cup to clinch their fourth straight title. The two teams already met in the group stage and it was a tight game with USA leading only by 14 points with the scoreline of 77-63. Throughout the tournament, China impresses everyone as they have a series of convincing wins, with a victory margin of 30 points during the group stage before losing to USA. It is highly expected that they will be a t the finals, meeting USA once again. And it happened!

A’ja Wilson helped team USA crushed Chinaand clinched fourth straight FIBA Women title and 11th overall as she scored 19 points to be hailed as an MVP of the tournament. This new faced USA is considered as one of the most dominant USA teams ever formed as they crushed every single team they faced with a victory margin of 40 points per game, including a dominant gold medal match with a 20 points gap.
“It feels great,” said Wilson, who was hailed as an MVP of the tournament. “We came here on a mission, we got it. We got gold. Now, we’re going home with some hardware. It feels great to us. Australia was great to us. I didn’t see any kangaroos, but it’s OK because we are leaving with gold.”
During the first half, China kept pace with the mighty USA until the last minutes of the first half when the reigning champion started the routing sparked by Kelsey Plum’s four point play. USA jumped into the 43-33 advantage coming into the break.
It is to be expected that this new USA roster will be the face of women’s American basketball in the international scenes for decades and will be a menace for many national teams including China. I have watched them grow up and I am happy they got the silver. We were really determined and defensively today we had 40 deflections. We had some great moments in the game and obviously A’ja Wilson was spectacular.”
Despite the defeat of China over the USA in the gold medal match, it is still without a doubt that China will be a huge problem in the international stage for the coming years.
