2 min read

Inter Milan clinched their first Coppa Italia title since 2011 after the dramatic 4-2 extra time win over holders Juventus in Rome. Ivan Perisic scored twice three minutes into extra time to seal his side’s eight Italian Cup title. Inter is still in the contention to retain its Serie A title this term, while Juventus will go trophy-less for the first time since 2010-11. “This team never gives up,” Inter coach Simone Inzaghi said. “Now we have two more Serie A matches to play and we want to end the season as well as possible. It is also only fair we enjoy these moments, it had been a decade since we won the Coppa Italia or the Supercoppa, so I am happy for the club, these amazing players and the fans who stuck by us from start to finish.” Soccer predictions today are here!

Inter’s Nicolo Barella opened the scoring from 25 yards just six minutes to the pitch. Juventus responded in the second half with Alex Sandro’s equalizer five minutes after the break followed by Dusan Vlahovic’s close range goal that gave Juventus the lead. It was Hakan Calahanoglu’s goal that sent the game into extra time before Perisic netted a brace to seal the win.

“Today we won a trophy on the pitch, but at the same time we have to recognize everybody who support us and work around us. It’s a trophy for everyone,” said Inter president of Inter, Steven Zhang. “For the future, the objectives remain the same: continue to be competitive, continue to be strong, and growing every single season.” Inter will now face Cagliari and Sampdoria in their final two league games.

Meanwhile, Juventus boss Massimiliano  Allegri, who is set to become the first Juventus manager since 2011 to finish a season trophyless, expressed his frustration after the game. “We do not win a single trophy this season, we have to retain that anger for next season, when we must get back to winning.” Allegri was sent to the stands for protesting against a decision.

Juventus is fourth in Serie A and currently battling to cement their Champions League placing. “It’s a pity, because we didn’t get the win against Inter in Serie A and did not take our revenge this evening either. Incidents can go against you some days, in favor the others,” Allegri added. AC Milan currently have a two-point lead over Inter with two games to play in the Serie A.
