Champions League: Manchester City Flexes Over Paris Saint-Germain in Win

2 min read

The headline reads “Manchester City 2-1 Paris Saint-Germain.” Despite the star power of the main cast, PSG still fell victim to the heads of the UEFA Champions League fixtures. Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus came to the rescue of Man City even after a fairly slow start.

It was a sorry day and state of affairs for PSG despite Kylian Mbappe’s heroics. The Premier League stars’ victory parade came after the French player made it a 1-0 game. PSG manager Mauricio Pochettino can only look at what happened and go back to the drawing board, to come up with a victory against their opponents in the Last 16.

Manchester City Proves Itself

Manchester City had quite questionable moments in the match, but they looked like the world-beaters that they are in disposing of PSG. Their commanding 2-1 victory may go down in the history books among the most epic Champions League results, courtesy of how loaded PSG is.

PSG had Neymar, Leo Messi, and Mbappe playing together for the first time in a long time. That didn’t mean they had an answer for the Pep Guardiola-mentored City and how they played with urgency. Portuguese player Bernardo Silva made a case for being the man of the match, beating the trio with his passes and world-class touches.

Not a Repeat of Last Time

It could very well have been a repeat of the first time, a match which PSG had won 2-0. It wouldn’t be so, as City made sure that the match wouldn’t be a repeat of the first time the two teams met. It’s a different outcome, even if a single point separates the two teams at the top of the football score tables.

Pundits may point out that Man City and PSG share the same fate of being sponsored with ‘state money’ for ‘sportswashing’ purposes. What separates them are the system in which they play. From the looks of it, Man City were individuals who came together to play as a team, while PSG are a team of individuals playing for themselves.

What’s Next for Both Teams

Even though the loss looks bad for PSG, it’s all on paper as both sides go through the Last 16, thanks to Club Brugge’s disposal of Leipzig—the stuff of which 12BET Sportsbook can only dream of. There’s more in store as the UEFA Champions League begins to move into final 16 territory.
