As the tournament will get underway in a few months, let’s take a look at the Copa America 2021 venues in Argentina:

Estadio Monumental (Buenos Aires)

Argentina’s capital city will commence the games in Copa America 2021. Home to football club River Plate, the Estadio Monumental will host the opening game between Argentina and Chile on June 14, a quarter-final and a semi-final match. The 70,000-capacity stadium, the largest stadium in Argentina, will also host Argentina’s group A fixtures against Paraguay and Bolivia.

Estadio Monumental was the venue for the 1951 Pan American Games and also staged the 1978 FIFA World Cup final between Argentina and Netherlands. It is learnt that River Plate was able to finish the new construction using the income generated from selling Enrique Omar Sívori to Italy’s Juventus in 1957 at a record price for the time. River informed that the revamp work will be completed this year.

Mario Alberto Kempes Stadium (Córdoba)

The city of Córdoba, the second most inhabited one in Argentina after Buenos Aires, has one of the best stadiums in the country, named after the legendary striker and top goalscorer at the 1978 FIFA World Cup, Mario Alberto Kempes. The stadium 47,851-capacity stadium will host Uruguay matches against Argentina and Bolivia as well as the first quarterfinal match on July 2.

The stadium also hosts high-profile matches of Belgrano, who normally play their home games at Estadio Julio Villagra. During 2010 and 2011 the stadium went through a remodelling process in preparation for the Copa America 2011 where Uruguay was hailed as champions.

Estadio Malvinas Argentinas (Mendoza)

The Estadio Malvinas Argentinas Stadium, the largest stadium in Mendoza metropolitan area, will host Bolivia’s matches against Paaguay and Chile on June 13 and 17 respectively, and Chile’s match against Uruguay on June 20. Formerly known as Estadio Ciudad de Mendoza, the name of the stadium was changed after the Falklands War in 1982.

The 40,000-capacity stadium, owned and administrated by the Provincial Government, was used as one of the venues during the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina and 2011 Copa America.
