“AFC Bournemouth can announce that the club has parted company with head coach Scott Parker,” the club said in a statement. Parker left the club fourth from the bottom with just three points from four games. The former Fulham coach led the club in their Premier League return and won their first game against Aston Villa. He also won the Carabao Cup second-round fixture against Norwich on penalties.
“I would like to place on record my gratitude to Scott and his team for their efforts during their time with us. Our promotion back to the Premier League last season under his tenure will always be remembered as one of the most successful seasons in our history,” the club owner Maxim Demin added. “Our search for a new head coach will begin immediately.” Don’t miss our free betting tips here!
Parker was dismissed after just 26 days in the job, the shortest managerial reign in the league since Southampton sack Paul Sturrock just nine days in the season followed by Newcastle United’s sacking of Sir Bobby a week later Sir in 2004-05 season. Gary O’Neil took charge as interim coach of the team in the 0-0 draw against Wolberhampton Wanderers this week.
Bournemouth have conceded 16 goals in their first four league games, the first team to have recorded that unwanted feat in the competition’s history. This season, the club have only signed Marcus Tavernier from Middlesbrough and Marcos Senesi from Feyenoord apart from free agents Ryan Fredericks, Joe Rothwell and Neto. Parker earlier addressed the lack of big signings this season in an interview.
“It doesn’t surprise me. This is currently where it is at this moment in time. The players need help. Today proved too big a challenge. The levels were far too big,” Parker said in a post-match interview after the 9-0 defeat against Liverpool. “We’ve got a decision to make as a club. There will be days like this. Time will tell. It’s a huge disappointment, a real humbling experience.”
