Slaven Vilic appointed a new head coach after Watford sacked Rob Edwards in just after 10 games. Edwards replaced Roy Hodgson after the Hornets suffered relegation last season. Vilic signed an 18 month contract to take over the Vicarage Road and according to Watford owner Gino Pozzo “As with all decisions taken by the Board, I believe this change to be in the best interests of the club.”
“We felt Rob had enough time to show us the identity of his team, however performances haven’t reflected our hopes and ambitions. Now we must move forward, and, in Slaven Bilic, we have secured the services of an experienced coach who has recent experience of promotion to the Premier League.”

The reason for Edward’s coming into Watford as a manager was because he had an astronomical season with Forest Green, which he led with a League Two title. His start with Watford is not that bad, actually it is quite impressive given that in the first three games he already helped the team collect seven points. But after just a lone win since then, Pozzo decided to move on from Rob Edward who became the 17th permanent coach to be sacked since the takeover of the said family way back in 2012.
The sole purpose of this move for Watford is to return to the Premier League. Sky Reporter David Prutton has this to say that football is business in nature and in just a span of 10 or 11 games is long enough to prove the identity of a manager:
“The owners want to give the next man, Slaven Bilic, enough time to mount a promotion charge. That club is geared towards an instantaneous return to the Premier League. The speed of the new appointment reflects the ruthless nature of football as a business. Bilic has got recent form, taking West Brom to the Premier League and that’s exactly where Watford need to be. He’s a very charismatic, experienced manager at the top level.”
After Watford sacked Rob Edwards from his position, the club released a public statements in regards to the sudden change on the team:
“Watford FC has relieved Rob Edwards of his duties as Head Coach,” a club stated. “The Board of Watford Football Club wishes to place on record its thanks to Rob for all of his work since his appointment and wish him and his assistant Richie Kyle – who will also leave the club – all the very best for their future careers in coaching and management.”
