Donovan Mitchell registered a franchise record of 71 points for the Cavaliers victory over Bulls, and the most points scored in an NBA Game since Kobe Bryant’s 81 points in 2006. Follow for more NBA Mobile news and updates here!

He became the shortest player to ever score 71 points in an NBA game standing at just 6’1. This is the eight-most ever scored – as the Cleveland Cavaliers erased a 21-point deficit to beat Chicago Bulls 145-134 in an overtime thriller. You may visit us for upcoming NBA point leaders stories here!

The highest points ever scored in an NBA Game was on March 2, 1962 in the match between Philadelphia and New York Knicks when Wilt Chamberlain decided to make history and score 100 points. Similar to Wilt’s 100 points, Mitchell is the first Cavs player to have a 71 points regular season game and he accompanied it with 11 assists and eight rebounds.

“First and foremost, my teammates. I know I scored 70 and all, but I wouldn’t be here without them. We wouldn’t be in this position without guys making crucial plays and that’s the honest truth,” Mitchell said during an on-court interview.

The Chicago Bulls had full control of the game as they led by as many as 21 points in the second quarter and 18 points in the third quarter. However, the Cavaliers resurrected and clawed back with Mitchell being the main focal point of offense. He forced the overtime by intentionally missing the free throw and rebound it on his own to sink an unlikely layup.

“We were treated tonight to one of the greatest performances in the history of the NBA,” Cavaliers Head Coach JB Bickerstaff said in an interview.

In the overtime, Bulls still had no answer to Mitchell’s dominance as the 6 ‘1 Cavs guard scored 13 points in overtime — which is a great help to lift Cavaliers to an impressive victory against the struggling Chicago Bulls. Demar Derozan scored 44 points in the losing effort for the Bulls.

Mitchell finished with 22 of 34 shots from the field, shooting seven three-pointers as he carried the Cavaliers on his back without the help  from Darius Garland and Evan Mobley.

“To be there in the record book with guys like Wilt is truly humbling. I’m speechless and blessed to be in the company of that greatness,” Mitchell told reporters.

Various reporters, media, and even fans are mad at why officials didn’t call a line violation, “I think the Two Minute Report will come out and say he crossed the line. I could be wrong and if I’m wrong, I’ll apologize. But at least what I saw on film, it made it hard for Patrick to block him out because he was certainly across the free-throw line before the ball hit the rim. “And my question  would be: Who is looking at that? And again if I’m wrong, then I’ll apologize and say I was wrong. But that’s what the rule is so clearly we’re going to see that in the Two Minute Report,” Mitchell told reporters
