NBA: Brunson scores 39 as Knicks dismantled Nets

The Knicks are one of the hottest teams in the NBA today, as they are rolling on the seven-game winning streak and climbed up to the fifth seed in the Eastern conference standings. All starters for the Tom Thibodeau side; Julius Randle scores 21 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, while Mitchell Robinson added 13 points and 10 rebounds, RJ Barrett and Quentin Grimes scored 15 and 22 points respectively.

On the losing side, Nets new wingman Cameron Johnson scored 33 points, while Spencer Dinwiddie had 11 points and 10 assists double-double performance, and Mikal Bridges finished with 21 points. The Brooklyn Nets are currently on a four-game losing skid since the Kyrie Irving trade to the Dallas Mavericks and Kevin Durant traded to Phoenix Suns during the first week of February, during the trade deadline.  

The New York Knicks was really on a mission, after failing to qualify in the playoffs last season, and recently landed their point guard in Jalen Brunson, the team were on the roll as they won 109-94 against the visiting and top-seeded Boston Celtics last Monday. The host led by as many as 27 in the second quarter and ended the first half with an 81-57 lead. However, Nets did not give up and made a 17-point run in the third to cut the lead to 17 points, 103-86 after Bridges’s three points. The host rallied back to finish the third quarter 110-87. In the fourth, Knicks ballooned their lead to 30 points before concluding the match with a 142-118 victory. 

“We’re on a mission,” Robinson said after beating the Boston Celtics last Monday. “We wanna be in the playoffs. Everybody wants to be there. Everybody on the team is gonna fight.”

In this l;atest game of the Knicks, they handed down their rival Nets a sixth consecutive defeat while extending their winning streak to seven games. 

“I feel like right now we are clicking on all cylinders,” Quentin Grimes said during post-game. “Everybody is playing unselfishly and playing for one another.”

Jalen Brunson and Tom Thibodeau were seen teasing each other and having fun during the comfortable victory over the Nets. “No, [Thibs] doesn’t care about [my performances],” Brunson said. “He cares about wins. That’s it. Wins and how we can get better. That’s all he cares about. That’s all I care about.”
