The 2015 3-point Contest provided us the glimpse of what Stephen Curry would become as one of the greatest basketball players ever. Get updated with your favorite basketball player and their NBA data here!

In the 2015 Three-Point Contest, Stephen Curry fought off Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers and his teammate Klay Thompson in the championship round and on his way to win the contest for the first time. The year of 2015 was truly a remarkable year of Stephen Curry’s basketball career, as he not only continued to become the best 3-pointer in NBA but also became a Champion and NBA MVP for Golden State Warriors.

The 2015 Foot locker 3-Point Contest

The 2015 edition of this contest is participated by Wesley Matthews, Kyle Korver, Marco Belinelli, JJ Redick, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, and Stephen Curry (Champion).

The format of the 3-point contest consists of two rounds: first round and championship round. In the first round, players must score as high as possible to advance to the championship round, as only three players will advance. This 2015 edition of three-point contest received the most amount of hype as it consists of real threats from the three-point kingdom and this lived up to its expectations and became a classic contest in NBA All-Star Weekend history.

2015 3-Point Contest Results:

PLAYER TEAM ROUND 1 FINAL ROUND
Stephen Curry Golden State Warriors 23 27
Kyrie Irving Cleveland Cavaliers 23 17
Klay Thompson Golden State Warriors 24 14
Wesley Matthews Portland Trail Blazers 22 —
Kyle Korver Atlanta Hawks 18 —
Marco Belinelli San Antonio Spurs 18 —
J.J Redick Los Angeles Clippers 17 —
James Harden Houston Rockets 15 —

Kyrie Irving, Stephen Curry, and Klay Thompson advanced to the second round and survived the intense first round, including JJ Redick’s controversial first round where some of his shots were not included due to his feet stepping on a line, including the money ball that could give him the spot on the final round. The First round highest scorer is Klay Thompson with 24 points.

Kyrie Irving went first to start the Championship round — the then-Cleveland Cavaliers Point Guard struggled from the three-point area, as he failed to replicate his hot-shooting in the first round, registering just 17 points. He was followed by the two really-really great shooters in the NBA, the Splash Brothers, Curry and Thompson. The probability of Kyrie winning his second Three-Point title was very slim.

Stephen Curry took the opportunity and he had an astonishing hot-shooting night posting the highest score ever in the Three-Point Contest history with 27 points. However, his teammate Klay Thompson had a worse championship round by scoring just 14 points, worse than Kyrie Irving, and the lowest score in the 2015 contest.

From that day on and to the current season, Stephen Curry blossomed to become one of the All-Time Great in the basketball world and in the NBA, going on to win three more championships, MVP, Finals MVP, and even won the 2021 3-Point Contest.
