A 95th-minute free-kick sends Paris side to a convincing 4-3 victory over Lille and maintain their spot as the current leader of Ligue 1 France. Kylian Mbappe is the man of the match as he scored twice, while the Brazilian international Neymar Jr scored in the 17th minute but was sent off the pitch with a stretcher after sustaining an ankle injury.

The Ligue 1 reigning Champion ended their three games losing streak in a nail-biting game against their rival. Christophe Galtier’s side shrugged off the pressure despite the mini-run of Lille’s side as David’s penalty and Bamba’s powerful finish turned the game around, erasing PSG’s commanding 2-1 lead. However, the 2022 Golden Boot winner Kylian Mbappe and the Golden Ball and World Cup Champion Lionel Messi delivers. Mbappe was on his way for his second goal of the game in the 87th minute, while Messi grabbed the winning shot by converting a brilliant free-kick deep into added time, giving PSG an eight points clear as the league leader of the 2022-2023 Ligue 1 season over the current second placer Marseille.

“We came through it. It wasn’t a great performance,” Mbappe said in a broadcasting interview. “We made lots of mistakes and lost concentration too often and against a quality side, you pay dearly for that, but we showed that even when we are not at our best and the context is not exactly favorable we are a different team with different players and we can always find a way.”

The sudden injury of PSG’s third star and primary striker caused a lot of stir on whether the Parisian side will have a successful run in the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Bayern Munich and their next week’s showdown against Marseille.

“Ney has sprained his ankle. We will see how serious it is. We don’t know yet – he is undergoing tests at the moment,” the Paris Saint-Germain boss Christophe Galtier addressed during post-match interview. “It doesn’t seem too serious,” the coach insisted.

Paris Saint-Germain side were having an intense preparation as they are looking to bounce-back from a 1-0 home defeat to the Bundesliga Champion Bayern Munich in the first leg of their round of 16 meeting at the UEFA Champions League. The Lille side showed competitiveness and did not back down against a top-tier PSG as they competed throughout the match. It was Mbappe and Messi who stepped up and opened their way to victory and ending the slump. The three goals from the the Lille side challenged the Reigning Champion and gave an intense feeling against this favorable side who already suffered three huge defeats from the hands of Marseille, Monaco, and the european rival Bayern Munich.
