French football star, Kylian Mbappe, has declared his intention to part ways with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), according to revelations from the renowned French sports publication L’Equipe and corroborated by numerous international media houses.
Mbappe’s decision to decline the offer of a year’s contract extension at PSG, formally communicated through a letter, has reportedly sent ripples through the club’s leadership, especially on the back of Lionel Messi’s recent exodus to Inter Miami, a Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit based in the United States.
With the clock ticking on Mbappe’s existing contract, which expires in June 2024, PSG finds itself at a crossroads: cash in on the 24-year-old French dynamo now or brace for the possibility of losing him as a free agent when his contract lapses.
While previously there was a glimmer of optimism within the PSG ranks about Mbappe extending his stay, that hope appears to have dwindled. Just last year, the young superstar found himself at the centre of transfer speculation, linking him with a potential move to Spanish behemoth Real Madrid. Despite the noise, he opted to renew his allegiance with PSG.
